Meeting called to order at 9:35 a.m.
Members are asked to volunteer on a meeting room setup/breakdown committee. It’s an easy task, the folding chairs are light and tables will only be needed for workshops. SCTAG has access to the MCSC Annex at 9:00 a.m. on our meeting days and has until 1:00 p.m. to return the room to readiness for the next renter.
The Treasurer’s report was provided. It is available to members upon request and copies are retained in the Information Binder maintained by the Board Secretary.
Mibs S. was thanked and acknowledged for providing treats and hot beverages for our general meetings.
CNCH 2025 (titled Bound by Thread, Boundless Creativity) will be put on by Area 1 guilds, of which we are one. Anyone interested in participating in helping to put on this event will be greatly appreciated, as there is much to do. The conference will take place at Asilomar on April 24-27, 2025. More information to come in the near future.
New items to the Library were shown, including yarn cards from Halcyon, as well as newly added books on knitting, sewing, and textile history. Our reciprocal relationship with Halcyon Yarns has been reestablished and the Guild will receive a 5% annual rebate of total member purchases, so make sure to let them know you’re a SCTAG member when you place an order!
Members expressed interest in new books being added to the collection, and that may happen if use of the library is shown. Access to the library outside of meeting times was also requested, and can be arranged by speaking with the Guild librarian (Marsha H.).
Please allow the Library Committee to re-shelve any items looked at. There will be a box to place those items in available during each meeting.
Marilou M. provided a remembrance of Ann Dizikis (1935-2024), a long-time local handweaver and textile artist who contributed meaningfully to our community.
Laura R. informed us that Camp Hill co-worker is looking for a weaving mentor, either as paid lessons or a trade or ? Please reach out to Laura if interested.
Bruce F. is planning a Guild website reorganization and is soliciting assistance with this summer project. Good organizational skills are helpful, coding skills not needed.
Roberta V. described an upcoming possible textile arts collaboration with an area metal arts guild. Pajaro Valley Arts currently has a Monterey Bay Metal Arts jewelry and sculpture show on exhibit (through July 14) that provides an example of some of the metal arts. We could collaborate with a show and sale.
Joan V. made a motion that interested SCTAG members participate in the suggested show and sale, with the Guild providing $750 in event seed money and with entry fees above that cost reimbursed to the Guild if enough income is raised.
Discussion took place about how reimbursement would occur with other guilds also participating. Roberta will work with the event committee and other guild(s) to arrange equitable reimbursement.
Joan’s motion was seconded, and a vote was taken. The vote passed unanimously.
Roberta solicited participation and gathered a list of those interested. Contact Roberta with any questions or to join the participants to make this event happen.
LeAnn B. provided an overview of programs currently scheduled for 2025. See the Guild Calendar for more information.
Special Interest Group leaders provided updates on their group’s activities. Special Interested groups will continue to meet in July and August based on their individual plans. Patrice K. will add the Dyeversities to the MCSC Garden plot waiting list.
There will be no general meetings in July or August, as usual.
The September 2024 general meeting will take place on the third Wednesday of the month, NOT the usual second Wednesday, because the County Fair will be happening the second week of that month.
Kris N. told us about the upcoming Castro Adobe Days and described how the Guild can participate at the Sept. 21 event. Adobe garden team have been growing and preparing dye plants for the Dyeversities to use on that day. Any of our artforms can be shown at this event. Please contact Kris if you’re interested in participating.
Cathy W. told us that the textile arts exhibit at the upcoming County Fair (September 11-15) has been relocated to the Harvest Building. Help with this exhibit is requested. Contact Cathy if interested.
