The Santa Cruz Textile Arts Guild is a member of the Conference of Northern California Handweavers Inc. (CNCH), a California corporation that has education as its sole purpose. Benefits of membership in CNCH include access to conferences, vendors, and workshops for guild members.

HGA

The Handweavers Guild of America, Inc.’s (HGA) mission is to educate, support, and inspire the fiber art community. We provide inspiration, instruction, and networking opportunities for fiber artists of all skill levels.

2023 CNCH Conference

CNCH 2023 will be held August 3 – 6 in San Luis Obispo on the campus of Cal Poly. A fact sheet on the conference is here.

CNCH Laiason Meeting February 12, 2023

  • CNCH San Luis Obispo is in the brochure at CNCH.org (see links above)
  • Registration opens online April 29th, 9am.
  • The conference is called Learn by Doing, to be held at the Cal Poly campus in San Luis Obispo on August 3-6, 2023
  • Registration will cost $475 until June 10th, at which time it will increase to $505, closing July 9th. Cancellation fee will be $100. Registration includes 15-hour workshop, BBQ, and Reception.
  • Lodging will be $395 for 3 nights in apartments or pods with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms per pod. There is a kitchen but it will be empty. You must bring anything you want in the kitchen. Utensils, plates, pots and pans, coffee pot, etc.
  • Barbeque & Reception. Barbeque and walk about will be on Friday night where you can wear a handmade item to how off. Reception plus fashion show will be Saturday night, details later.
  • Additional meal plan for all meals other than the BBQ & Reception will cost an additional $95. There is also ala carte food available for purchase if no meal plan is purchased.
  • Parking. There will be an additional fee for parking for Saturday and Sunday at around $15 a day.
  • There will be no golf carts or transportation available for mobility limited people. It would have cost $5000 for them to provide this service. People will need to drive from one venue to the next if too far to walk.
  • There will be a scholarship grant in the amount of $495. It is not awarded according to financial need. It is awarded by how well the grant is written on what the recipient will do to further the craft of weaving/spinning/dyeing, etc. The application is online and the deadline for applying is March 31 st. Grant will be issued in the form of a coupon (not cash), to be used towards conference classes. Grant application is on the website under Current Conferences and is due to them by March 31 st.
  • CNCH is moving to increase our per member fee from $5 per year, to an undecided amount, but probably $10 or $12. There will be an outreach person sent out to each guild to discuss.

The Handweavers Guild of America, Inc.‘s (HGA) two-day online symposium spotlights leading professional and industry trend setters, sharing their experiences and providing insights on the diverse and changing landscape of textiles and fiber art. The symposium is open to all, but is geared towards young professionals, recent graduates, and students. More information here.
