General Meeting Minutes – September 18, 2024

SCTAG General Membership Meeting  – September 18, 2024

 

  • Meeting was called to order at 9:35 am.
  • LeAnn Bjelle welcomed new members and guests.
  • Susan Penny presented the Treasurer’s Report.
  • Marilou Moschetti presented updates on CNCH and mentioned that classes for next year’s meeting should be up on the CNCH website soon.
  • Roberta Valdeaz gave updates on the joint show with the Monterey Metal Arts Guild at the Radius Gallery. There will be a call on our website for artists to exhibit up to 3 pieces and 2 out of three pieces must be for sale. Bruce is designing the call page.  Marilou mentioned the application process to do a yarn bombing at the gallery during the joint exhibit.
  • Roberta mentioned her friend, who is a graphic designer, has volunteered to design a new logo for our guild. She needs high-resolution photographs of our textural pieces for this project.  Please forward photos of your work to Bruce.
  • Kris Nardello asked for demonstrators on Saturday the 21st for the Castro Adobe Open House.  Demos can be of various activities related to fiber.  The demo will run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Setup will be from 9:00 am to 9:30 am.  Please bring your own chair and equipment.  Give Kris your email if you are interested.
  • Elizabeth Schilling outlined the upcoming programs for the coming few months:

December Holiday Party

January York Gallery presentation on framing and displaying our work

February Introduction to Hardanger

  • Alex Emrick organized a brainstorming activity to get more ideas for our 70th anniversary events. Members broke up into groups of three and wrote down their ideas.  Alex will collate the ideas and present them at the next meeting.
  • Cathy Walls reported on our activities at the county fair. Our exhibit was in the Harvest building for the first time.  Nobody found the art in action exhibit. Members shared their award-winning work from the fair.
  • Marsha Hein gave an update on the guild library. After perusing the books, please return them to the lower shelf to avoid reshelving mistakes.
  • Interest Groups

Karen: The Basketry Group meets once a month on the third Friday.

Joan: The big weaving group meets on the first Tuesday of the month, while the small group meets every Tuesday at Joans house.

Bruce: The next meeting of the Frequent Flyers on the 1st Monday will explore cotton roving and spinning silk.

Peg: gave an update on dyeing, Inkel weaving and the Sew and Sew’s.  The dye group is exploring dyeing with Pisolithus on October 30th.

The Carmel Crafts Guild is sponsoring learning to weave with a rigid heddle.
