The first in-person meeting at Aptos Village Park clubhouse since November was called to order at 9:35 by Co-President Joan Vierra. She spoke of our guild being transformed by the creation of five interest groups, all of whom have now met in person at least once.
LeAnn Bjelle represented the Basketry Group with 8 members. Their next meeting will be on April 23 when they will make a simple garlic basket using dyed reed.
Maggie Clark represented the Twisted Threads Tapestry Group which meets at Quail Hollow Park. Their next meeting is April 21. Right now their focus is primarily beginning their tapestries and social weaving.
Joan Vierra held the first Basic Loom Weaving Group get-together at her home where she demonstrated winding a warp and warping front to back for our first group project, towels. The next meeting is April 20 when we will learn about calculating yardage, selecting a pattern and possibly winding our warps.
Peg McCullough represented The Eccentrics, the on-going tapestry group. Some of the members are participating in the “Tiny but Mighty” show as a group. They’ve chosen an acorn as representing the potential of that beginning of a great oak. They continue to meet or Zoom weekly.
Peg also spoke about the natural dye group, The Dyeversities, and the very successful first dye day at the beach on April 6th. Check out the Facebook SCTAG Chat group to see photos.
Marilou Moschetti represented the spinning group who have been meeting on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at Bruce’s clubhouse. We’ve been primarily spinning wool, so far, but plan to start focusing on more specific fibers in the future. Lots of wool and alpaca have been passed on to new homes!
There was a request for a felting group and Marilou said folks could call her about that or botanical printing.
Bylaws were discussed briefly and there will be a vote taken on adopting the recommended changes at the May 11th meeting. Proxy votes may be sent to Kris Nardello <spderwmn@cruzio.com> if you are not able to attend.

Visitors and new members were asked to introduce themselves. Welcome to Diane, Camilla, Michelle, Sandy, Carolynn and Peg.
Cathy Walls wants to remind us about making things to go into the Santa Cruz County Fair in September. Entries are due in mid-August.
Bruce Fine introduced our presenter, Lori Scott who showed us garments from her textile journey. She now specializes in recycling fabrics and yarns to keep them out of the landfill and because they have their own special histories from “past lives.” Some of the materials she repurposes are: men’s shirts, crocheted aprons, vintage baby dresses, Napkins, Tablecloths, Sugar and feed sacks, Ticking, Calendar towels, Vintage lace, Ribbons
She often uses patterns from 100 Acts of Sewing and they are also carried by Hart’s in Santa Cruz. They are known for basic patterns which can be customized and personalized and she delighted the audience with the many inventive garments she showed. She has a local show coming up on April 30 and May 1 at Nancy Howell’s house in Santa Cruz.
