Meeting Minutes – April 12, 2023

Marilou Moschetti, guild president, opened the meeting with a welcome to members and guests who were asked to stand and introduce themselves.

We are currently in need of someone to step up to take over for the current guild secretary for next year. The workshop coordinator, Mibs Somerville, will also be stepping down and her volunteer position will need to be filled. Please contact either Kris Nardello or Mibs Somerville for details about those jobs or Marilou.

Our new projector made its debut at this meeting and it was wonderful and trouble-free. Hurrah!

By-laws and the job descriptions of board positions were recently updated by the board.

Conference

  • CNCH, August 3—6 Bruce Fihe gave a basic description of lodging and reminded us that the video and more information was available on the CNCH website. Registration is April 29 at 9:00AM

New Business
-Mibs Somerville announced upcoming workshops: May 10th, Brenda Collins will teach “Designing Art Yarn”, a basketry workshop by Jane Milner in September, Korean textiles in January with Youngmin Lee, wedge weave by Janette Gross in March, and botanical printing scarves in May with Mayumi Fujio.

Sharing
-Joan Vierra shared her innovative method of preventing the warp from sliding off on the sides when winding onto the back beam by using another larger reed suspended above the beam. This second reed contains the threads and eliminates the tension problems that may occur otherwise.
-Cathy Thome modeled the silk dress that she had dyed with a mixture of cochineal and madder dye after taking the Maiwa Natural Dye class.
-Peg McCollough showed her colorful cotton towels all woven with the same threading, but very individual as she changed the treadling and weft colors.

-Basketeers will meet at the Scotts Valley Library April 15 to wrap rocks like they had seen at the Hakone Gardens gallery display of traditional bamboo baskets
-Dyeversities will meet at the Scotts Valley Library on Wednesday, April 19th at 10:00 to discuss the tannin exploration and the process of scouring protein fibers
