SCTAG Board Needed
Starting at the beginning of the next Guild year, in September, 2021, the four SCTAG Board of Directors positions will be open.
If you haven’t had a chance to give back to your guild recently, this is a great opportunity. The jobs are not demanding (well okay, the Treasurer does have to work at it), and those who have filled the position for two years and in some cases even longer, will be stepping down. It would be sad to see the guild be without leadership once they do.
At the May guild meeting, the candidates come forward, and at the June meeting, the new Board is approved by membership vote. The Programs Coordinator is already working behind the scenes to set up some of the speakers & workshops for the 2021 year. The Board is also aided by the Workshop Coordinator and the Website Manager.
Here is a description of the 4 positions:
President:
– Calls for and attends Board meetings as necessary and votes on issues.
– Sets the agenda and runs the general guild meetings.
– Works with the Treasurer, the Programs team, and the Workshop Coordinator to create the upcoming year’s agenda.
– Works with the Website Manager on site content.
The SCTAG annual agenda is usually set up as follows:
Sept: Show & Tell from the summer hiatus and the county fair
Oct: Speaker
Nov: Speaker
Dec: Holiday Party
Jan: Speaker
Feb: Play Day
March: Speaker
April: Non-speaker Optional
May: Speaker
June: End of Season Party
There are also 2 workshops per year, usually tied to that month’s speaker.
Again, the President does not arrange these her/himself, only oversees those involved.
Vice President:
– Reserves the venue space, currently with the County Parks Department (so it’s better for the budget if she/he is a resident of the county.)
– Acts as guild Liaison, responsible for attending 3 CNCH Liaison meetings per year, including one at the annual CNCH conference, and one luncheon at the venue of the following Conference (other meetings are by Zoom). Reports back to the guild about the conferences and other CNCH news.
– Attends Board meetings as necessary and votes on issues.
Treasurer:
– Maintains the guild roster, adding new members and removing non-renewing members. Also, the Treasurer reminds members who haven’t paid dues to do so!
– Collects members’ dues, oversees the checking account, pays the speakers & workshop instructors.
– Works with Workshop Coordinator to collect members’ workshop tuition and materials fees.
– Transfers Paypal payments from the website to the checking account (with help from site manager if needed.)
– Facilitates guild-based rewards programs such as The Woolery’s program based on member purchases.
– Sends required annual tax information and membership dues to CNCH.
– Organizes the annual budget. Reports to the guild on these matters.
– Attends Board meetings as necessary and votes on issues.
Secretary:
– Takes notes at Board Meetings, issues them to the general guild when called for.
– Prepares minutes of actions taken at the Board meeting so the minutes can be approved by the Board at its next meeting.
If you have any questions about these positions, feel free to contact me (Joan Near, President). Thanks for considering this opportunity to keep SCTAG vibrant!!
