Title: Kami-ito and Shifu: learn the basics of making and using paper thread

Description: Experiment with the steps to making your own paper thread and how you might use it. Barbara will teach the adaptations she uses for the materials she loves, old sewing patterns. We can experiment with different papers she will bring and try out papers that class members bring.

Students should bring:

• scissors
• ruler
• craft knife and cutting mat (optional)
• non-electric bobbin winder and a way to attach to a table
• an old towel and small spray bottle or dish for water
• spinning wheel or drop spindle (optional)
• any papers you would like to experiment with – tissue paper, newspaper, wrapping paper
