THIS WORKSHOP REQUIRES COMPLETION OF THE BASIC BACKSTRAP WORKSHOP OR EQUIVALENT BACKSTRAP WEAVING EXPERIENCE
Workshop description:
This workshop will focus on the complementary warp pickup technique. In this class we will cover the following topics:
- Wind a narrow warp for complementary warp pickup.
- Set up your warp including heddling and flipping the cross.
- Learn to read a chart, including discussion of different charting onventions.
- Work through how to pick up the correct threads to make a design
- Discuss alternate methods of heddling
- Sources for designs.
- Materials used in various cultures.
In addition the following will be covered:
- Talk about the instructors design process.
- Demonstrate Warp Visualizer, the design software used by the instructor.
- Demonstrate the instructors warping method for achieving a multicolored “random” warp.
Students should bring:
- Scissors
- Note taking supplies
- A clamp (details to be sent to students prior to the workshop)
- A variety of “pointy” objects to use for pickup. This includes things like chopsticks, pickup sticks, knitting needles, and anything else that is about that size and shape.
